Arts

At Valley State College, the Arts learning area encourages students to explore creativity, culture and self-expression through a wide range of practical and collaborative experiences. Aligned with the Australian Curriculum, students are supported to develop confidence, critical thinking, communication skills and an appreciation for the diverse artistic traditions that shape Australian and global communities.

Students at Valley State College can engage in the following subjects from the early years through to senior secondary pathways. Through these subjects, students experiment with traditional and contemporary techniques, create original works, perform and present to audiences, and reflect on the role of the Arts in society and culture.

  • Visual Art,
  • Photography,
  • Indigenous Arts,
  • Drama and
  • Music

A strong emphasis is placed on creativity, collaboration and cultural understanding, particularly through Indigenous Arts, where students explore and respect the rich histories, stories and artistic practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Across all Arts subjects, students are encouraged to develop their individual talents while building the confidence to communicate ideas, emotions and perspectives in meaningful and imaginative ways.
