At Valley State College, the Health and Physical Education learning area promotes active lifestyles, personal wellbeing, teamwork and resilience across all year levels from Primary through to Year 12. Students are encouraged to develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to lead healthy, balanced and active lives both within school and beyond.

Physical Education programs focus on developing movement skills, fitness, coordination, teamwork and sportsmanship through a wide variety of individual and team-based activities. Students participate in sports, games, fitness training and recreational activities that encourage participation, personal growth and positive relationships.

Health Education supports students in developing an understanding of physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. Age-appropriate learning experiences help students build resilience, make informed decisions and develop respectful relationships, self-awareness and healthy lifestyle habits.

Outdoor Education is an important feature of the curriculum at Valley State College, reflecting the school’s connection to the Australian environment and regional setting. Students may participate in activities such as hiking, camping, navigation, environmental studies, team challenges and outdoor recreation experiences that encourage leadership, independence and environmental responsibility.

Sports Students at Valley State College have opportunities to participate in a wide range of sporting activities that encourage teamwork, fitness, school spirit and personal achievement. Sport is offered through both school representative teams and community club pathways, allowing students to participate at a level that best suits their interests and abilities.

Sports available to students may include:

  • Netball – available through school teams and local club competitions
  • Basketball – available through school teams and club pathways
  • Rugby – available through representative school teams and community clubs
  • Australian Rules Football – available through school-based competitions and local club participation
  • Athletics - available through inter school competitions and local club participation.
  • Swimming Club

Students are encouraged to participate in interschool sport, house competitions, gala days and regional competitions where appropriate. Valley State College values participation, sportsmanship and inclusiveness, while also supporting students who wish to pursue higher levels of competition and representative sporting opportunities.

In the Senior School, students may also access specialised Health, Sport and Outdoor Education pathways that support future study and careers in areas such as fitness, recreation, coaching, health sciences, community services and outdoor leadership.
