Mrs Mira Walanji

Head of Arts & Culture
mw@valley.school

I’m Mira Walanji, and I teach Visual Arts at college level. I’ve always believed that art is one of the most powerful ways for students to express who they are and how they see the world. My teaching is strongly influenced by my connection to culture and storytelling, and I enjoy sharing how art can carry meaning, identity, and history across generations. In my classroom, I encourage creativity, experimentation, and confidence—whether students are working with paint, sculpture, photography, or digital media.

Before teaching, I studied fine arts and spent time working on community-based art projects, which really shaped the way I approach education today. I love helping students find their own artistic voice and develop the skills to bring their ideas to life in meaningful and personal ways, while also appreciating the cultural stories and perspectives that shape all forms of art.

As Head of Arts and Culture, I also work across music, drama, dance, and visual arts to help create a vibrant and inclusive creative programme within the college. I enjoy supporting staff and students to collaborate on performances, exhibitions, and cultural events that celebrate diversity and encourage participation from the whole school community.
